Instructor will provide introduction to use layering of dry color medias to create painterly effects. One drawing will be done without subject, to learn process of mixing medias for effects. Begin with compositional cropping tool to isolate interesting recognizable subject.

Begin with a contour line drawing using India ink with either brush or stick, followed by dry color conte sticks, then color wet washes, light touch. Determine value contrast, mixing medias in layers to obtain unique color ideas. Work background to foreground, pick an area in focus, more detail, paying attention to positive-negative spaces and shapes, soft and hard edges.

Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Aurora.

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

    The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

    It was only me and Seaun, he was very thorough and patient. Did a lot of review and basics, which was good for me. Since it was only me we only did 1.5 hours not the entire 3 hours. He is very easy to talk with and a very talented photographer

    Mark A. Payler is a Colorado-based photographer specializing in landscape, cityscape, and jazz performance photography. His work explores light, form, and visual storytelling—from the sculpted abstractions of the American Southwest to intimate, behind-the-scenes moments on the jazz stage. His "Signed on the Mother Road Polaroid" series will open in mid-May at the National Route 66 Museum, documenting people and stories across the historic highway.

    Mark's work has been featured in "A Day in the Life of America", "Popular Photography", and "Route Magazine", and he has been commissioned for large-scale installations across multiple Bank of Colorado locations. He is also a photographer for the Denver Jazz Festival and teaches classes (University of Denver, Colorado Photography Art Center) on composition, visual storytelling, and AI-assisted photographic development.

    Title or Location: The last ride of the day
    This photo is of Mamba a Morgan hyper roller coaster at worlds of fun in Kansas City Missouri taken back in 2018. At end of long day riding ride and coaster we started to head back to or car to head motel night sleep to head out for next stop Mason Ohio to visit King Island. On the way out I saw Mama running. Just than took my camera out to get one last photo. Of the only two riders on the whole train just living it up for the last ride of the day

    Title or Location: 2024 Labor Day Liftoff in Colorado Springs, Colorado
    This photo had several interesting elements. There was enough water to make a decent foreground. The hot air balloon was the main subject along with the house in the midground. Finally, I was waiting for a balloon to fly in front of the Cheyenne Mountain background. The early morning light brought out the warm colors of Cheyenne Mountain.

    Title or Location: This Still Life Photograph of "Grapes, Strawberry's and Wine" was taken in my bedroom in Orange County California.
    This image is a Still Life Composition of "Berries, Wine and Grapes" that I created on a rainy day in my bedroom. I used no fancy Studio Lighting at all. My only light source was a hand-held flashlight that I kept moving rapidly. It was an experiment in Light Painting when I couldn't go outside to shoot.
