Instructor will provide introduction to use layering of dry color medias to create painterly effects. One drawing will be done without subject, to learn process of mixing medias for effects. Begin with compositional cropping tool to isolate interesting recognizable subject.
Begin with a contour line drawing using India ink with either brush or stick, followed by dry color conte sticks, then color wet washes, light touch. Determine value contrast, mixing medias in layers to obtain unique color ideas. Work background to foreground, pick an area in focus, more detail, paying attention to positive-negative spaces and shapes, soft and hard edges.
